This wine is a unique and rare single harvest Madeira, a fortified wine named after the atlantic island of its origin. It aged for 21 years in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional "Canteiro" system, in which the casks are gradually transferred from the top floors of the lodge, where it is naturally warmer, to the middle floors and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. The wine was regularly racked and bottled in 1997 when it reached the desired stage of maturaty.
